Silicon Valley and San Francisco

Day 1

This day will give the students an opportunity to see top tech company headquarters and meet with STEM professionals. The students will visit Google’s Googleplex where you will have an opportunity to take photos next to free colourful “G Bikes” as well as organic gardens, tennis courts, sports fields and beach volleyball courts.  You will stop at Facebook, LinkedIn, and eBay campuses as well as Adobe, Paypal, Twitter and Cisco. Your local guide will walk you around the HQ offices and tell you amazing insider stories about legendary companies.

At Apple Park Visitor’s Centre you can check out 3-D models of the actual campus, go to the roof terrace or at the cafe for a coffee, or hang out at the store, which of course is stocked with Apple products. Apple Company Store is the only place in the world where hats, clothing and other Apple logo-branded items can be purchased and is open to the public.

At HP Customer Welcome centre you will see an immersive display of HP’s innovative products for home and office, as well as demos in 3D printing and VR and a replica office with memorabilia from the early days of the company.

Day 2

Today you will immerse in technological history while touring the Intel Museum. The museum offers a number of fascinating exhibits and artefacts and includes a replica of the Intel first microprocessor, the Intel 4004 chip, a replica of an Intel clean room, interesting profiles and artefacts from the company’s co-founders.

You will then visit the Computer History Museum, where you will see a semiconductor and microchip history and can even try on a bunny suit–the mandatory full-body white suit worn to protect microprocessors from any contaminants.

The third activity for the day is a tour of Stanford University.  This tour covers central campus, including the Main Quad (historic and academic centre of campus, including the school of Humanities & Sciences), Memorial Church, Engineering Quad and White Plaza (student activities area, including the Bookstore, Student Store, Old Union, and Tresidder Memorial Union)

Day 3

This morning you will embark on a NASA Ames Research centre tour where you will learn about what NASA does. The centre includes a Science on a Sphere Visualization System, which projects the surface of a planet onto a spherical surface. There’s also various exhibits relating to some of the missions that Ames is involved with, a real moon rock on display, and a “Living and Working in Space” exhibit.

In the afternoon you will visit the California Academy of Sciences where you will delve into the inner workings at the California Academy of Sciences and experience the wonders of science and nature and learn about how the academy makes its own seawater with the aid of careful monitoring by scientists.

You then step onto a private viewing deck to check out the 2.5-acre sustainable living roof, and access a research lab to chat with scientists studying earthquakes, anthropology, and animal behaviour.  Finally, you will enter a secured vault to check out geology specimens, and learn about the revolutionary green design and architecture that make this museum unique.

Day 4

This day will be dedicated to San Francisco Sightseeing where you will get to explore more of San Francisco on a full-day tour that combines a city tour by bus in the morning with an afternoon audio tour of Alcatraz. You will see the city’s main attractions by bus including districts such as Chinatown, North Beach, and The Mission. You get to make photo stops at City Hall, Twin Peaks, and the Painted Ladies; see the Golden Gate Bridge from two points; and travel by ferry to Alcatraz.
