The group meets at OR Tambo international airport from various destinations in South Africa. Your Tour Director will greet you with a warm welcome and introduce everyone. You board an overnight flight to Rome.


Day 1 – arrival and orientation

Arrive in Rome in the morning where the shuttle will take the group to the hotel to check in and refresh and rest after the long journey. The Tour Director will suggest nearby restaurants for the travellers to have lunch and stroll around the neighbourhood at leisure.

The group meets in the evening for welcome dinner. The Tour Director will review the up-to-date daily schedule and any changes, discuss responsibilities, safety guidelines, emergency procedures, and answer any questions you may have.


Day 2: Ancient Rome and Colosseum Half-Day Walking Tour

You begin your adventure near Oppian Hill, from which you will enjoy panoramic views of the Colosseum. On arrival at the world famous site, you will avoid long ticket lines with your fast-track pass and go straight inside this iconic structure, where you will get to travel back 2,000 years as your knowledgeable local guide tells stories of gladiator battles. You will then visit the arena floor and subterranean chambers, which are usually closed to the general public, followed by cells in which criminals and wild animals were kept, and get an opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Roman gladiators in the arena.

You will then continue to the Roman Forum via Via Sacra where your guide will take you to the highlights and gives you the inside scoop. You will get to learn about the historical significance of the House of the Vestal Virgins and the Temple of Julius Caesar. Your tour will end with sweeping city views atop Palatine Hill.

You will have the afternoon to yourself to enjoy the lively city streets of Rome. Your Travel Director will be very happy to give you suggestions on how to make the most of your afternoon at leisure.


Day 3 – Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter Basilica

This day you will see the highlights of Vatican City with this skip-the-line tour of the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel and St Peter’s Basilica. You will be led by a knowledgeable local guide for a visit to the outstanding Vatican Museums where you will see some of the most extensive and impressive art collections in the world. You will check the Gallery of Tapestries, appreciate the amazing sculptures with the Museo Pio Clementino and take in the unmatched frescos of the Sistine Chapel. Thereafter you will continue on a guided tour of St Peter’s Basilica, which in itself is a work of art.


Day 3 – Big Bus Rome Hop-on Hop-off Tour

This is an opportunity to explore the city on your own. You make your way to any one of the many convenient stops to step on board the bus. This comprehensive tour of Rome lets you cover all of the highlights in much less time than a self-guided exploration. The tours run between 9am and 5pm, and you can start and end at any stop of your choosing. On board the bus, you will be given headphones to listen to audio commentary about the stops. You will learn about Rome’s ancient history and its evolution into a modern, thriving city.


Day 4 – Pantheon, Trevi Fountain and Street food tour

You will begin your morning with Rome Walking Tour.  On this tour, you will discover Rome’s layers of history during a short walking tour of its key sites. The knowledgeable local guide will take you to iconic sites including the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, and Piazza Navona, along with lively art-filled squares like Piazza Barberini. Your guide will tell you stories behind the landmarks as you stroll and pose for photos along the way.

Rome is famous for its cuisine, and this afternoon, you get to explore the Rome Street Food with Local Guide. You meet your local guide in one of the city’s famous market squares and then take a stroll around the food stands to peruse the wares and chat to some vendors. As you walk and talk, you will get to taste delicacies such as cheese, cured meat, wine, and fruit.

The next stop will be Jewish Ghetto, a neighbourhood of cobbled lanes, piazzas, and fountains, studded with ancient Roman sites. Here you will see Rome’s main synagogue and the remnants of Pompeii’s Teatro Grande. You will get to taste some of the city’s best pizza, together with suppli (fried rice balls stuffed with tomatoes and mozzarella).

You will then continue into the area known as Torre di Largo Argentina, home to the spot where Julius Caesar was murdered, and visit a family-run gelateria. Here, taste some of its acclaimed gelato (ice cream) as you learn about the different flavours and how they’re made from the owner.


Day 5 – Tuscany in One Day Sightseeing Tour from Rome

It’s time to step out of Rome to visit another Italian gem. You board an air-conditioned coach in central Rome, and begin a journey into the rolling, beautiful countryside of Tyoucany’s Val d’Orcia region.

Your first stop in this adventure is at Montepulciano, a 15th-century hill town known for its Vino Nobile di Montepulciano red wine, which you will learn about its heritage on this tour. The tour will take you through highlights such as the clock tour, cathedral, and town walls.

You then move into the area around Montalcino and then visit Sant’Antimo Abbey and gaze across the vineyards as you learn about how their grapes are used in Brunello di Montepulciano wine. The next stop is the farm where you will enjoy a glass of Brunello with a 3-course lunch.

After lunch, you move to Pienza, one of Tyoucany’s UNESCO-listed treasures. You will have an opportunity to enjoy free time exploring the historical centre, designed by Pope Piyou II in the mid-1400s. Your Tuscany tour ends with a drop-off in Rome.


Day 6 – Castel Sant Angelo Skip the Line Tickets

This morning you will get to know another side of the Vatican as you visit yet another Rome treasure – the Castel Sant’Angelo. Here you will get to explore a collection of paintings, sculptures, and medieval firearms before catching a glimpse inside the passageway that connects the castle to the Vatican.

The afternoon is free time to spend the day either discovering Rome further on your own or do your shopping.

You meet in the evening to enjoy a Farewell Dinner at a local restaurant to toast to your unforgettable week in Rome.


Day 7 – Departure

You enjoy free morning before your departure. You will be transferred to the airport by a shuttle to catch your evening flights.
